3。5 this was such a brutal, heartbreaking end to this story。 the art was beautiful as always。 this book really made me rethink the purpose of the story。 why was it being told? there were so many themes of change, growth, self harm, deception。 it was hard to watch our hero grow into something so twisted and hurt。 i never could relate or understand the thinking of any of the characters other than phos。 it felt like the gems stopped caring about one another in a way, especially the gems who went to 3。5 this was such a brutal, heartbreaking end to this story。 the art was beautiful as always。 this book really made me rethink the purpose of the story。 why was it being told? there were so many themes of change, growth, self harm, deception。 it was hard to watch our hero grow into something so twisted and hurt。 i never could relate or understand the thinking of any of the characters other than phos。 it felt like the gems stopped caring about one another in a way, especially the gems who went to the moon。 this was a tough read emotionally and there was a lot that i had to question, but i was thankful it made me think and self reflect so much。 。。。more
Jackie R,
I once again wish to personally harm Aechmea。 Didn't think he could bring Phos down any lower but damn was I wrong。 I once again wish to personally harm Aechmea。 Didn't think he could bring Phos down any lower but damn was I wrong。 。。。more

Alyce,
Can't say much without spoilers but I did enjoy this series at the beginning for its writing。 Some of the nuance that I saw before fell in the most recent chapters (Chapter 85+) and some of the story and character interactions are extremely strange (view spoiler)[ Diamond and Bort, Caringorm, New Gosh (hide spoiler)]。 However, how Ichikawa crafts Phos as a character and builds everything in such subtle way。。。 it feels so surreal and I can't help but aspire to have that kind of skill at writing。 Can't say much without spoilers but I did enjoy this series at the beginning for its writing。 Some of the nuance that I saw before fell in the most recent chapters (Chapter 85+) and some of the story and character interactions are extremely strange (view spoiler)[ Diamond and Bort, Caringorm, New Gosh (hide spoiler)]。 However, how Ichikawa crafts Phos as a character and builds everything in such subtle way。。。 it feels so surreal and I can't help but aspire to have that kind of skill at writing。 。。。more
Waverly,
An absolute tragic momentum of a tale filled with propulsionary grief, and selfishness。 Everyone is so beautiful, yet so destructive。
Fos and The Thirst,
Cat,
Wow! I've got a lot of feelings about this Volume! He is no longer the silly, but happy and determined gem we met at the beginning of the story, but a furious, depressed person, who wants to take revenge for what the Earth gems did to him and get the job done。To be honest, when I first met Phos, I wasn't very fond of him。 For the most part, I found him to be kinda annoying, but now that I see his current self, I wish he could remain like the go-lucky person he was。 I admit, seeing him becoming stronger and gaining the respect of the fellow gems was nice, but that's it。Anyway, Phos decides to shatter all the Earth gems and force Adamant to pray, so he gets a handful of his Gem friends, a spaceship and multiple Lunarians and attack the Earth gems… 。。。more
Col,
Ichikawa is ratcheting up the pressure。 Phos has been pushed beyond the breaking point (but there's always more to be broken), and that's just what Aechmea wants。(view spoiler)[Maybe I should feel bad about the earth gems getting destroyed, but it's hard。 Phos has suffered immeasurably, and all for their sake (even if it'll end up getting them all killed if he succeeds, but he doesn't know that)。 It's probably not good for Phos psychologically either。 I'm hoping he'll give Euclase the chance to Ichikawa is ratcheting up the pressure。 Phos has been pushed beyond the breaking point (but there's always more to be broken), and that's just what Aechmea wants。(view spoiler)[Maybe I should feel bad about the earth gems getting destroyed, but it's hard。 Phos has suffered immeasurably, and all for their sake (even if it'll end up getting them all killed if he succeeds, but he doesn't know that)。 It's probably not good for Phos psychologically either。 I'm hoping he'll give Euclase the chance to talk, but he's probably not in the mood。 It's also an open question what he'll do when he sees Adamant, because。。。Phos is entirely aware that Adamant is the only being in the universe that cares about him as a person。 The idea that he'd have to kill Adamant to save the other gems was only a catch-22 as long as Phos cared about the other gems。 If he's convinced himself that all other gems should die, will he still have the desire for Adamant to pray? I'm not sure if Phos is aware that he counts as a human now, and thus is probably indispensible to Aechmea。 Will he have anything to say to Cinnabar? There were a surprisingly large number of straightforward answers here。 It was Phos' gifts and his emotions which make him human。 Aechmea also claims that humanity was never the sole requirement to get Adamant to pray, but that Adamant is, in fact, unable to pray (though he doesn't elaborate why)。 He's come full circle, from saying Adamant is unable to pray, to implying that it was an emotional problem, to whatever he's claiming here。Of course, there were also a heap of more obscure hints in this volume。 There's an emphasis on ice throughout。 Adamant shows Phos' Lapis eye the ice floes。 Phos escapes during the winter。 Adamant says to Euclase that Antarcticite somehow knew that Adamant was a different kind of being from the gems。 The last thing Phos dreams before regaining consciousness is Antarcticite repeating the last thing Phos said to Adamant - "If only you weren't here"。 Cinnabar finds his first job as a cheerleader for the gems destroying the floes。 If we look back a bit further, Cairngorm's last request before his eye surgery was for Aechmea to attach a layer of Antarcticite to his body to comfort Phos, and Adamant made a comment about how the ice floes are beings similar in nature to the gems, but unable to think。 Finally, the volume ends with Aechmea showing Cairngorm a pit of solid ice, part of some plan of his, commenting that gem memories prefer high purity crystals。 If I try to tie this all together - Adamant says that he has memories from before his creation。 If the ice floes have memories, is it possible that Antarcticite had memories from them, possibly having observed things from before the end of humanity? The comments about Aechmea and Cairngorm having a child, the attachment of the Antarcticite, the comment about gem memories preferring high purity crystals - what does it mean? Perhaps the creation of artificial memories to further control and develop Phos into "something greater than a human"? There was some speculation a long while back that Aechmea had "impregnated" Phos with the human particle (see the chapter with the human factory and Aechmea giving Phos the pearl eye), but that seems a bit outlandish at this point。 Then again, they did make a point about how humans are mostly water, and supposedly both Antarcticite and Phosphophyllite are water-absorbing minerals。。。 Unless Aechmea lied to Phos and kept a large amount of the original Antarcticite lying around, I don't think there's much chance of him coming back。 I suppose there's not too much purpose in speculating on such a deliberately confounding cliffhanger。Coming back to the purity of the ice crystals, "purity" comes up repeatedly in this volume - Aechmea claims that the gems are "pure beings", and that they corrupted Adamant from his original purpose, and that even with the gifts of the legs and arms, Phos was "too pure" to become human, but Lapis' head provided the final piece necessary。 If the "7 treasures" theory is true, and Aechmea has some plan to make Phos more than human, then Phos still needs a piece from a red gem, candidates being Red Diamond, Padsparadscha and Cinnabar。 Pads would probably give a piece of himself to Phos, since he apparently has no problem being unconscious for centuries at a time even now。 I could see Phos forcefully taking pieces from Cinnabar, but Mercury and Gold rapidly form an amalgam, so who knows what that would do。The fact that Adamant knows Aechmea's name implies that Aechmea was involved in his creation。 I believe the Professor was called a woman, so she probably isn't Aechmea, but perhaps he knew her? We see in this volume that Aechmea has far more viewports onto the island and the school than just Phos' eye, and we found out last volume that he had been watching Ghost/Cairngorm for a long time, and kept Cairngorm's original arm。 This opens up a whole can of worms about how much of the events of the series were orchestrated by Aechmea。 If he thought Lapis' head was integral to Phos' growth, did he deliberately leave it behind? Did he plan for Ghost to be chipped off of Cairngorm? Did he know ahead of time that Phos wanted to go to the moon? Did he deliberately capture Antarcticite? When did he first take note of Phos? If he knew all of this, is it possible that he did, in fact, keep the original pieces of Antarcticite? Or even Phos' original head? If he could locate Phos' arms and legs in the ocean, he could reconstruct a whole new Phos if this one goes awry。(hide spoiler)]["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more
